Ecuador
Weather
It is characterized by a very humid tropical climate in the transition zones towards the coast and Amazonia, semi-humid to humid temperate in the inter-Andean zone, warm and dry in the inter-Andean valleys and cold in the high altitude highlands, above 3000 m of altitude.
Gastronomy
The gastronomy of Ecuador is influenced by the diverse peoples that conquered and migrated in its territory: Incas, Spaniards, French and English. Likewise, the fauna and cultivation of the four main regions are different making a coarse and rich gastronomy throughout the country.
Transport
Ecuador can be traveled by land, air, sea and river. The main interprovincial road network is in very good condition, fares are cheap, buses run very early in the morning but not usually at night. You can take authorized yellow cabs. There are airports with domestic and international flights
Language
Ecuador is a multilingual country where Spanish predominates. Several indigenous languages coexist with Spanish, the largest of which is Quichua. Spanish is the official language of Ecuador; Kichwa and Shuar are official languages of intercultural relations.
Currency
The currency in circulation in Ecuador is the US dollar. It can be difficult to find where to change your currency into the official currency and other currencies are not regularly accepted. Credit cards are accepted in most places, however, you may suffer an unexpected.
Clothes
Bring light clothing for the heat, but also something to protect you from the humidity. You can take a bathing suit and a neoprene style T-shirt, depending on the seasons. If you prefer the Andean mountains, you should bring warm clothes.
Places to visit
JUNGLE
The Ecuadorian rainforest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on earth. The rivers are major tributaries to the mighty Amazon River and they offer a cool water refuge for recreation in the jungle. The majority of our recreation area sits between 300 and 500 meters above sea level and it holds incredible opportunities for visitors. The Kichua indiginenous group is the largest of nine distinct tribes in Ecuador’s rainforest region. They enjoy teaching visitors about their unique culture and traditions that have been passed along through the generations. Rivers are the driver behind daily life here and water is life for the local tribes.
THE HIGHLANDS
The highlands create a geographical division between the coast and jungle. The highlands offer cooler climates, exceptional scenery and rich agricultural zones with flower farms and terraced fields producing abundant produce harvests. Ecuador has 48 volcanoes with most being located in the highlands and a few in the Galapagos. The mountain dwelling Quichua indigenous group is composed of hardworking, resourceful people who prepare some of the best cuisine in the country.
COAST
The Galapagos Islands are world renowned on the coast in Ecuador. While the Galapagos is fantastic, the mainland coastline is loaded with opportunity and the crowds are much lighter. Hidden beaches, mangrove estuaries teaming with wildlife, whale watching, water sports and rich marine ecosystems are all waiting for visitors who want a low key experience with plenty of time to sunbath, eat great seafood and relax.

What They Say
Abby guided me and two girlfriends on a camping trip outside of baños. She thought of everything. She planned an amazing spaghetti dinner with wine around a campfire. She took us on a hike, we soaked in a natural mountain hot spring. It was amazing! She really knows how to create the experience you want. I would definitely recommend taking a trip with Abby!
I could not find enough words to describe Abby Dent as a hard working women, guide, hostess in Ecuador and specially at the Hideaway. She is just so generous, genuine, good cook, amazing story teller and the most important is that she has a vast knowledge to recommend and suggest what you need to know about traveling in Ecuador. I had the best memories staying at her place. Sharing delicious barbecues, fruit picking, and fun kayaking!
